GRAPE EXPECTATIONS - EP. 08 - TINTA RORIZ IN THE DOURO AND PACHECA

Tinta Roriz in the Douro and Pacheca The famous Tinta Roriz, Aragonez in the Alentejo, Temperanillo in Spain, is a grape variety that in Portugal is spread throughout all regions. It is a heterogeneous variety, both in its quality and in its annual quantity. It is more difficult to work in the Douro region, with some susceptibility to oidium, but it is a variety that is privileged here because the soil is not very fertile, the temperatures are high during the summer, and the humidity is quite low. It is a variety that adapts very well. These conditions will give us a more balanced wine. Tinta Roriz is a variety that gives us very polished tannins, characterized aromatically by aromas of red fruits like raspberries and blackberries. In extremely hot years we also feel a bit of black fruit, which also ends up being very interesting for Port wines. A great example of a wine that expresses all these characteristics is the Pacheca Grande Reserva 2015 Tinta Roriz.
