Tinted and opaque in the center with dark red maple. The nose is full with complex black fruit, notes of stems, sylvan herbs and violet. In the mouth there’s an explosion of wild fruit with firm but velvety tannins. Fresh and with an intensity that promises a long life.
REGION: Douro APPELATION: Porto GRAPE VARIETIES: The grapes are from the oldest vineyards of Quinta da Pacheca with an average age of 60 years old where traditional Douro grape varieties predominate. VITICULTURAL YEAR: The year began with a cold, dry winter with very low rainfall. Sprouting occurred relatively early, close to March 10th. Dry conditions continued in the spring and the warm April and May weather encouraged the rapid growth of the vines. The first three weeks of June were extremely hot causing and accelerating even more the cycle with the color appearing about a month earlier compared to the previous year. Despite some thunderstorms and rain in early July, the weather remained dry until the end of the vegetative cycle. As expected, the harvest matured very early with high sugar levels leading to longer fermentations and very effective color extraction. At Quinta da Pacheca the harvest began on September 3rd in the parcel whose grapes constitute this Vintage. The temperatures during the harvest were mild with cold nights, allowing balanced fermentations and excellent extraction. The musts were dense and marked by exceptional depth in color. SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Should be served slightly refreshed (16-18ºC) and accompanying cheeses or desserts of dark chocolate and red fruits. WINEMAKER: Maria Serpa Pimentel ALCOHOL: 20,5%%
