A New Expression of the Douro for Spring
Barrilário White & Rosé: A New Expression of the Douro for Spring
As the days grow longer, so does the desire to gather around the table — outdoors, in good company, with fresh flavours and light-hearted moments. It's in this spirit that the latest launches in the new Barrilário range arrive: Barrilário White 2023 and Barrilário Rosé 2024, both with Douro DOC certification.
Crafted by winemakers Maria de Serpa Pimentel and João Silva e Sousa, these wines capture a contemporary expression of the Douro and make for excellent choices this spring.
Barrilário White: Freshness, Structure and Elegance
Made from Códega do Larinho (35%), Viosinho (30%), Gouveio (20%) and Arinto (15%), Barrilário White is a vibrant and well-balanced wine.
The nose reveals citrus notes of lemon and lime, lifted by a subtle hint of fresh oak. On the palate, it offers structure and volume, with a lively acidity and a persistent finish — qualities that provide not only immediate freshness but also excellent ageing potential.
This bright, greenish-citrus white is the result of a blend between wine aged in large French oak vats and wine matured in stainless steel, ensuring both complexity and definition without compromising its natural lightness.
Ideal with composed salads (such as caprese, smoked salmon or chicken), richer grilled or baked fish, creamy rice dishes or lean meats — or simply as a fresh, elegant start to a relaxed lunch in the sun.
Barrilário Rosé: Light, Fruity and Full of Character
With its pale pink hue and expressive profile, Barrilário Rosé brings together Touriga Nacional (40%), Tinta Roriz (40%) and Touriga Francesa (20%) in a fresh and delicate register.
On the nose, fresh red fruits take the lead — strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant — with a bright, inviting intensity. The palate is fruit-forward, elegant and well-balanced, with a smooth, moreish finish.
Aged for six months in French oak barrels, this rosé is ideal for warmer days, either as an aperitif or at the table. It pairs beautifully with light dishes such as pasta, sushi, chicken salads, smoked salmon or aged cheeses.
Versatile and easy-drinking, it’s a wine designed for relaxed gatherings and long, unhurried afternoons.
