Essence of Bairrada
Bairrada's Distinctive Terroir
Defined by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and sheltered by the mountains to the east, Bairrada is a historic wine region of exceptional terroir for winegrowing, renowned for its bold red wines, vibrant white wines, and classic-method sparkling wines of remarkable finesse.
Bairrada’s clay-limestone soils shape wines of structure and longevity, while the region’s temperate maritime influence preserves vibrant acidity, giving wines their signature freshness and aging potential.

Winemaking Heritage
The story of Quinta do Ortigão begins in the late 19th century, when the Alegre family embarked on their journey of crafting sparkling wines in Bairrada.
Over four generations of dedication to winemaking built a legacy of excellence, embodied today by Pedro Alegre at Quinta do Ortigão, ensuring that each bottle honors the family’s tradition, authenticity and commitment to quality.

Expressive Soul
Quinta do Ortigão’s red wines are defined by their depth, structure, and expressive character. In their youth, they showcase ripe red and dark fruit notes, gradually evolving into silky textures and complex earthy nuances as they mature.
The careful selection of Baga, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Cabernet Sauvignon results in wines with firm yet polished tannins, lively acidity, and a lingering finish.
Whether bold and youthful or elegantly aged, these wines are exceptional choices for both casual enjoyment and sophisticated pairings.
Vibrant Character
Quinta do Ortigão’s white wines are distinguished by their expressive freshness, layered complexity, and refined elegance. In their youth, they reveal vibrant citrus and tropical fruit notes, which gradually evolve into richer textures and delicate mineral undertones over time.
Carefully crafted from Arinto, Bical, Maria Gomes, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, these wines achieve a harmonious balance of freshness, minerality, and aromatic depth.
Whether enjoyed young for their crisp vitality or aged for their nuanced sophistication, they are versatile companions for both casual sipping and refined gastronomy.
Finesse in Every Bubble
Quinta do Ortigão’s sparkling wines are renowned for their remarkable freshness, fruity vibrancy, and refined complexity. In their youth, they showcase bright fruit notes, which gradually develop into toasty nuances and deeper aromatic layers as they age in the bottle.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, these sparkling wines embody elegance and balance, combining lively acidity with a smooth, persistent mousse.
The Baga-based sparkling wines, in particular, stand out for their creamy texture, pronounced minerality, and structured depth, making them ideal for sophisticated pairings, from fresh seafood to delicate cheeses and gourmet dishes.
